Donna Strickland Becomes the First Women to Win Nobel Prize Since 2015

A Canadian optical physicist and Nobel laureate, Donna Theo Strickland becomes the third lady to win the National Nobel Prize in physics, for Lasers on Tuesday. She became the first woman to win this award in 55 years. Being a professor at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, she visited there to discuss her research that she completed long back in 1985 when she was just 26 years old, an engineering graduate student. Strickland is the first women to win a Nobel Prize since 2015, which is really a great achievement. Marie Curie was the only woman who won the Nobel Prize back in 1903.

In 1998, she won the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship award.


Then in 1999, she was awarded Premier’s Research Excellence Award.


Later in 2000, she won Cottrell Scholars Award from Research Corporation.


After that, in 2008, she was honored with Fellow of the Optical Society of America.


And now in 2018, she wins Nobel Prize in Physics, together with Arthur Ashkin and Gérard Mourou.


In 2011, she also served as Vice President of the Optical Society and after that in the year 2013, she served as the President of the Optical Society.
